Volleyball Drops Sixth Straight

ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Houston volleyball team closed out the UT-Arlington Tournament with a 3-1 lose to Indiana University on Saturday afternoon in Arlington.
After beginning the season with a strong win over defending ACC champion Maryland, the Cougars have now dropped six in a row and stand at 1-6 on the year, while the Hoosiers improve to 5-1 with the win.
Falling behind 2-0 in the match (30-20, 30-18), the Cougars rallied to win the third game 30-27 but didn't have enough to take Game 4 as the Hoosiers won 30-23 to take the match.
As a team Houston racked up 59 kills in the match, just one less than the Hoosiers who had 60 kills. The difference came in attack errors where the Cougars faltered 31 times to Indiana's 17.
In the match, three Cougars put up double-digit kill numbers as Kelly McAnelly led all players with a match-high 17 kills, followed by Kariny Ritter who turned in 14 and Loure Dews who had 11 on the afternoon.
Indiana had four players reach the double-digit kill mark and had 10 aces between three players.
Houston finished the UT-Arlington Tournament with a 0-3 record that includes loses to UT-Arlington, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and Indiana.
The Cougars head back to Houston next week with a match against city rival Rice on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at Rice.
