Cougar volleyball falls to USC in season finale

LOS ANGELES - The University of Houston volleyball team finished the 2003 season Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 loss to No. 1 southern California at the Lyon Center in Los Angles California.
Emily Adams had 12 kills to help the No. 1-ranked USC women's volleyball team conclude an undefeated regular season with a 30-22, 30-14, 30-21 victory.
Houston (12-20) was led by Becca Sartori and Cinthia Piva who both finished with 10 kills in the match. Loure Dews added eight kills for the Cougars while setter Mirela Vasconcellos passed out 20 assists.
USC improved to 29-0, while Houston fell to 12-20. The defending NCAA champion Women of Troy, who have won their last 40 consecutive matches dating back to last season, figure to be the nation's top seed when the NCAA Tournament parings are released Sunday.
USC outhit the Cougars, .438 to .087, and had more blocks (12.0 to 4.0) and digs (39 to 26).
