Cougars Finish in 13th Place at the Chile Pepper Invitational

Fayetteville, Ark. - The University of Houston men's cross country team finished in 13th place at the Arkansas Chile Pepper Invitational in with 369 points. Arkansas won the team championship with 78 points, while Oklahoma was the runner-up with 130 points. Alabama finished in third place with 154 points, Abilene Christian had a fourth-place finish with 176 points, UTEP was fifth with 217 points, Tulsa was sixth with 272 point, Rice was seventh with 283 points and Boise State was eighth with 285 points.
Cal-Davis finished in ninth place with 287 points, while Belmont was 10th with 321 points, Stephen F. Austin was 11th with 348 points, Texas Tech was 12th with 355 points.
Houston's top runner was Sesar Figueroa who finished in 31st place as he completed the 10-kilometer course in 30:47.84. Cole Dailey finished in 44th place with a time of 31:12.08, while Alex Winstel was 89th with a time of 32:12.81 and Maurillio Sanchez was 97th with a time of 32:18.40. Ronnie Martinez finished in 112th place with a time of 32:43.99, Jason Banes had a time of 33:09.36 for 131st place and Paul Goodwin had a time of 33:26.97 for 139th place.
Westly Keating was the individual champion with a time of 29:25.88, while Mircea Bogdan of UTEP finished in second place with a time of 29:36.76 and Bernard Manirakiza of Abilene Christian had a third-place finish with a time of 29:39.47.
Houston's next race will be at the Conference USA Championships on November 1 in Tampa, Fla.
