The Woodlands, Texas - Junior Jessica Oakes and Cole Dailey led the University of Houston cross country teams at the Rice Cross Country Meet to open the 2002 season at Montgomery College in The Woodlands, Texas. Oakes finished in third place in the race of 35 competitors with a time of 18:48.
Sophomore Kelly McCarty completed the race in 18:53 to finish in sixth place, while freshman Autumn Tawater was seventh in a time of 18:54.
In the men's division, sophomore Cole Dailey was Houston's top runner among 36 runners in the 5,000-meter course with a time of 16:06 and freshman Sesar Figueroa finished in 12th place with a time of 16:21.
Senior Toartou Kargou finished in 13th place with a time of 16:22, while sophomore Jason Banes finished in 16th place with a time of 16:28. Sophomore Ronnie Martinez finished in 18th place with a time of 16:33.
