HOUSTON - University of Houston middle hitter Jenny Tanneberger was named Conference USA Co-Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 3.
Tanneberger (San Antonio-Univ. of Texas) posted two double-double performances in wins over DePaul and Marquette Nov. 1-2. She averaged 6.0 kills and 3.13 digs per game, while racking up a .382 attack percentage. Against the Golden Eagles, Tanneberger notched 25 kills and only three errors for a .361 hitting percentage, while adding 15 digs and six blocks. For the week, she totaled 48 kills and only five errors for a .372 attack percentage.
Tanneberger shares the honor with Cincinnati's Julie DuPont (Muskego, Wis.-Muskego), who posted back-to-back 20-plus kill performances to lead the Bearcats to a pair of C-USA victories over Memphis and Saint Louis last weekend. She averaged 6.29 kills, 3.0 digs and 1.43 blocks per game, while hitting .306 for the week. Against Memphis, DuPont nearly recorded the fourth triple-double in school history, posting 24 kills, 13 digs and eight blocks. With their two conference wins, UC has now extended its win streak to 10 matches and have not lost since Sept. 27.
This is the third time Tanneberger has been honored with the C- USA Player of the Week Award. She was named Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 8 and Oct. 13 after earning 2002 All-C-USA First-Team Preseason honors. Tanneberger was also a 2001 First-Team All-C-USA selection in her first year as a Cougar after transferring from the University of Texas.
The Cougars (16-7, 6-2 C-USA) will look to stretch their three-match C-USA win streak this week at Hofheinz Pavilion. Houston will host Louisville (19-4, 8-1 C-USA) Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Cincinnati (17-6, 8-1 C-USA) Sunday at 2 p.m.
