T.J. Meagher joined the University of Houston Athletics Department in 2000-01 and has worked in college athletics since 1993-94. He has served the department in multiple areas during his career at UH and currently contributes to the leadership as senior associate athletics director for facilities, operations and capital projects. Â
He leads all construction and renovation projects for Athletics. Since 2013, Meagher has overseen $250 million worth of capital projects, including TDECU Stadium ($126 million), the Fertitta Center ($60 million), the Guy V. Lewis Development Facility ($25 million) and the Football Indoor Practice Facility ($20 million).
Meagher has directed projects for Athletics, including the Football practice field renovation ($1.7 million), Baseball field synthetic turf installation ($1.1 million), Outdoor Track renovation ($1.5 million), Baseball’s clubhouse construction ($6 million), multiple video board installations and several locker room renovations for various sport programs.
He also leads operations for Facilities and Event Operations, Information Technology, Video Board Operations and is the sport administrator for Volleyball.
During the COVID pandemic, Meagher was responsible for coordinating prevention efforts in modifying event team training operations and event operations for all UH sports.
For three years prior to his current position, Meagher served as lead for internal operations. During that time, he oversaw Facilities and Event Management Operations, Equipment Operations and Human Resources. He also oversaw the department's operating budget.
Meagher previously spent four years as the assistant athletics director for compliance and special projects at Houston. He assisted in the facilitation of the department's compliance operation and collaborated with senior athletics administration on fiscal analyses. Early in his tenure, he began developing business plans for the Department's capital projects and participated in a comprehensive feasibility study for development of athletics facilities.
Prior to being promoted to that position, Meagher served as compliance coordinator at UH from 2002 to 2006. Meagher joined the compliance staff after holding the dual title of Athletics Ticket Office coordinator and merchandise manager from 2000 to 2002.
He came to Houston after working for seven years in collegiate volleyball. Meagher was the women's head coach at Campbell from 1998-00 after serving as an assistant coach at Mississippi from 1995-98. He began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Kentucky in 1993.
In June 2006, Meagher was named the legislative representative to the Board of Directors for the American Volleyball Coaches Association and served in that role for seven years. Â During his time with the AVCA, he assisted in the leadership to establish Beach Volleyball as an NCAA sanctioned sport, which began in 2014.
Meagher was member of the NCAA Division I Volleyball Committee from 2017 through 2021 – serving as the Committe Chair during the 2020-21 season.  That year, he guided the championship operation through the COVID pandemic by creating a modified tournament field of 48 teams in one location over 12 days.
A native of Louisville, Ky., Meagher earned his bachelor of science in accounting in 1992 from Kentucky and completed his master of business administration at Morehead State in 1994.
Meagher and his wife, Gentine, have a daughter, Genevieve. The family lives in Houston.
