Leila Petewon was named the Director for Sports Performance for the women’s basketball and volleyball teams in September 2024.
Petewon comes to Houston from New Mexico after spending a season as the Assistant Director of Athletic Performance for the women’s basketball program.
Petewon joined New Mexcio after spending a season at Oregon as a strength and conditioning coach intern with the men’s and women’s basketball programs as well as with the softball program. In her role, she assisted the head strength and conditioning coach with team lifts, individual lifts, warm-up, conditioning and post-practice tendon loading.
Prior to her time at Oregon, she served as a strength and conditioning coach and as a health and wellness coach for two years at Lane Community College, also working with women’s basketball, and as an assistant girl’s varsity basketball coach. In addition, she has a CSCS, USA Weightlifting level 1 certification, and NBHWC Health and Wellness Coach certifications.
Petewon received her associates of science transfer degree at Lane Community College in 2017 before obtaining a bachelor of science degree in human physiology at Oregon in 2018. In 2024, Petewon earned her master’s degree in exercise science with a concentration in strength and conditioning at Concordia University- Chicago.
