Katie Ortmann joined the University of Houston athletics department in July 2019 and was elevated to Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Event Management Operations in February 2023.Â
Â
In this role, Ortmann is the primary game manager for Houston men’s and women’s basketball. Ortmann oversees the facility schedules for practices and home competitions and the day-to-day operations of the Fertitta Center.

Before being promoted to this current position, Ortmann worked as the Director of Facilities & Event Management Operations from October 2021 to February 2023 and as Assistant Director of Facility & Event Management Operations from July 2019 to October 2021. During that time, she oversaw the facility management and event operations for Houston softball, women’s tennis, women’s soccer, men’s basketball and women’s basketball.

Prior to UH, Ortmann rose through the ranks at the University of Iowa. She began working during her undergrad as a part-time student employee in 2008 for the athletic facilities department. This included minor housekeeping, facility conversions and assisting supervisors with projects. After graduation, Ortmann became the athletic facilities graduate assistant in 2011. Following her graduate assistant position, Ortmann moved into the department’s full-time intern role in 2013 before being promoted to athletic facilities attendant in 2015.Â

While at Iowa, Ortmann was the primary facility manager for the Christine Grant Field, Iowa Soccer Complex and Bob Pearl Field. In addition to overseeing the day-to-day maintenance and facility upgrades, she also led conversions at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The 15,000-seat arena hosted wrestling, volleyball, men’s and women’s gymnastics, men’s and women’s basketball which required major logistic and organizational skills.

During her time at Iowa, Ortmann worked as the facility manager for several postseason events including the 2013-2015 NCAA Women’s Basketball First and Second Rounds, the 2016 USA Wrestling Olympic Team Trials and the 2019 Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics Championships.

Ortmann is a native of Klein, Texas, and earned her bachelor’s degree in sports management from the University of Iowa in 2011.
