Andrew Johnson was hired in March 2023 to head the Equipment Services department for the Cougars after serving five years as head equipment manager at Texas State. The 2025 Football season will be his third with the Cougars.
Johnson oversees the day-to-day operations of all aspects of the athletic department's equipment needs including but not limited to handling the equipment budget, managing inventory, forecasting orders for future student-athletes and staff, preparing for all recruiting events, fitting protective equipment and ensuring all apparel items are sanitized, sorted and distributed to assigned personnel.
Johnson joined the Bobcats’ football staff after serving four years as an equipment manager with the New York Jets.
With the Jets, Johnson traveled to London to work in the NFL International Series at Wembley Stadium. He also was selected to participate in the Managers on a Mission (MOAM) program that sends future leaders in sports to different countries in Africa. Johnson traveled to Mzuzu, Malawi, to do mission work and teach sports to orphaned children in 2017.
Johnson began his career in collegiate athletics as a student athletic trainer at Tyler Junior College for the basketball team and baseball team that was the runner-up at the 2010 Junior College World Series.
He was a student equipment manager at Oklahoma State when the Cowboys won the 2010 Alamo Bowl, 2011 Big 12 Conference championship and the 2012 BCS Championship’s Fiesta Bowl and 2012 Heart of Dallas Bowl. OSU also played in the 2013 Cotton Bowl.
Johnson earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports science with an emphasis in sports management in 2013. He received an associate’s degree in athletic training at Tyler Junior College in 2010.
Johnson is a certified member of the Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) and serves on the executive board as the District 7 Director representing Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado. The purpose of the AEMA is to promote, advance and improve the equipment managers profession in all phases.
