HOUSTON, TX (Nov. 3) -- The University of Houston women's volleyball team coasted to a three-games-to-none sweep of crosstown rival Rice University Wednesday night at the Owls' Autry Court. With the 15-5, 15-12, 15-8 victory the Cougars won for the 14th time in their last 15 matches to improve to 17-6 on the year.
Houston was co-led in the match by the junior hitting tandem of Stephanie Heiskell and Bobbi Stewart. The duo both recorded 14 kills to help UH post its sixth 3-0 sweep of the year. Senior Kristin Guidish added 10 kills with a .476 hitting percentage while junior middle blocker Michelle Frazier spiked 11 kills and a .409 percentage.
Rice was led by Kelly Smith's 17 kills and nine defensive digs. The Owls fell to 10-17 on the year.
After four consecutive matches on the road, UH will be back home in Hofheinz Pavilion for a Conference USA contest against National Division rival Tulane on Friday night, November 5. First serve with the Green Wave will be at 7:30 p.m. The Cougars will then take on Southern Miss at home on Sunday, November 7. The three Houston seniors will be honored in the 2:00 p.m. match vs. USM.
