In the sprint events, senior Mandy Harms led the way for UH as she captured third place in the 200-yard free and fourth place in the 100-yard free with times of 1:58.40 and 54.46, respectively. Sophomore Christy Milstead finished third in the 200-yard fly (2:11.44), while freshman Danielle Ruggiano provided a spark by placing third in the 200-yard individual medley (2:14.70).
The Cougar relay teams also had an impressive showing in Florida finishing in the top five in both the 400-yard medley and 400-yard free relays. Houston's dual meet record improved to 8-6 on the season.
While the swim team competed in Florida, the UH divers were t the Georgia Diving Invitational in Athens, Ga. The duo of Yolanda Hernandez-Casas and Christi Christensen finished strong with a fourth and seventh place, respectively, in the three-meter springboard event. Hernandez-Casas compiled a total of 483.35 points while Christensen scored a 442.60 in an elite field of 16 invited divers from around the country.
The Houston swimming and diving team will next be in action in a home double-dual meet against crosstown rival Rice and New Mexico State on Saturday, January 15The start time will be at 1:00 p.m. in the UH Natatorium.
