Overmyer Earns John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List Nod

Tight end earns Houston’s second consecutive John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List honor
BALTIMORE – For the second consecutive year, a University of Houston tight end was named to the John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List when Patrick Overmyer was tabbed to the list on Wednesday.
Overmyer, a 2024 Freshman All-American, and over two years hauled in 627 receiving yards on 58 catches for eight touchdowns at UTSA. As a sophomore in 2025, he recorded 344 receiving yards, which ranked fifth on team and seventh by a tight end in The American.
The Kingwood, Texas native caught fire late in the 2025 season for the Roadrunners, catching three touchdown passes in the final two games of the year. His five touchdowns in 2025 ranked third-most by a Group of 6 tight end while his 63.5 PFF receiving grade ranked seventh among tight ends with 5+ touchdowns in the Group of 6 leagues.
Presented annually to the most outstanding tight end in college football, the John Mackey Award honors the legacy of Pro Football Hall of Famer John Mackey, whose excellence, leadership, character, and impact on the game continue to inspire generations of student-athletes. Established in 2000 by the Nassau County Sports Commission, the award remains one of college football's premier individual honors for the tight end position.
