Freshman guard Kingston Flemings sets freshman season scoring record in 69-56 loss
LAWRENCE, Kan. – The #5/4 University of Houston Men's Basketball team lost its third-straight game as it fell to #14 Kansas, 69-56, inside Allen Fieldhouse on Monday night.
After Kansas (21-7, 11-4 Big 12) scored the opening three points, the Cougars (23-5, 11-4 Big 12) used an 11-0 run to get ahead early. The two sides traded buckets before the Jayhawks went on an 11-0 run of their own to take a 31-27 lead into the locker room. Tre White scored five of his 11 first-half points in that spurt as he finished with a game-high 23.
Houston opened the second half scoring five of the first seven points, but a 16-3 Kansas outburst pushed the lead to 49-35 at the 12-minute mark. The Cougars got back-to-back buckets from graduate forward Kalifa Sakho and freshman guard Kingston Flemings, but a 12-2 run gave Houston its largest deficit of the season with just over 7:30 minutes left to play.
Powered by eight points from Flemings and five points from sophomore guard Mercy Miller, the Cougars chipped away at the lead but couldn't cross the finish line as the Cougars dropped their third-straight game for the first time since January 2017.
With his eighth point on the evening, Flemings broke the Houston freshman scoring record. He finished with 16 points on the evening.
