
Cougars Shine at Cameron Burrell Invitational on Friday

Houston collects 12 wins, 26 personal bests at final home meet
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track & Field program closed out its final regular season home meet with 12 victories and 26 personal bests at the Cameron Burrell Invitational inside the Carl Lewis International Complex on Friday.
RUNNING EVENTS
Sophomore Patrick Flowers picked up the first victory in the men's 3000m steeplechase race with a time of 9:19.93.
Houston swept the 4x100-meter relay races. The women's squad of junior Matilde Ochoa, freshman Taylor Jackson, freshman Norah Nwonumah and freshman Carlysia Cresser claimed first place with a season-best time of 44.82. On the men's side, freshman Germain Smith-Mata, sophomore Cayden Broadnax, junior Ryan Mulholland, and senior Brice Chabot crossed the line first in 40.02.
The women's 100m hurdles squad dominated the podium leading by junior Kaycee McCoy's time of 13.47, junior Ali Mack in second at 13.60 and sophomore Madison Dominguez's third place with a time of 13.91.
Junior Anthony Trucks triumphed in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.86. Sophomore Jairius Burton crossed the finish line just 0.01 second behind to claim second place.
Freshman Germain Smith-Mata secured third place in 100m and was the top collegiate finisher at 10.18.
Sophomore Joshua Sims-Waddy claimed the second spot in the men's 400m with a time of 48.11.
Sophomore Aaron Crittenden finished second in the men's 800m with a time of 1:51.55. Freshman Shawn Freeman finished third overall at 1:51.58.
In the men's 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Gerardo Mejia secured second place with a personal best time of 52.80 while senior Charlie O'Block closed out the race at 53.04 for third.
Jackson earned second in the women's 200m race with a time of 23.52. Cresser completed the race in third place at 23.70.
On the men's side, Broadnax won the event with a time of 20.74. Chabot came in second at 20.81 and freshman Sahfi Reed lowered his personal best to 21.40 for third.
In the men's 5000m, Miles Cox led the Cougars with a time of 14:54.63, followed by Zade Kayyali recording 15:09.29. The women's 5000m was dominated by the freshmen class as Cadence Patterson won the race in 17:22.96. Addison Hite secured second at 17:37.96 and Lily Campos in third at 17:40.38.
FIELD EVENTS
The Cougars won four field events on the second day of competition. Freshman Athena Stith secured the victory in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.84m.
On the men's side, freshman Jacob Trevino earned third place with a personal best mark of 6.32m.
Junior Zaeda Houff recorded a personal best mark of 58.02m to win the women's hammer throw. Redshirt freshman Ty Lott also posted a personal best in the men's hammer throw at 61.42m for second place.
In the men's shot put, sophomore Cordell Nwokeji finished second with his mark of 18.23m. Sophomore Kaden Edwards launched 17.85m to claim third. On the women's side, Sydney Freeman recorded a personal best throw of 14.49m for second place.
Freshman Stephanie Ume-Ezeoke claimed first place in the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.53m. On the men's side, senior Kevin Snyder earned the top spot with a jump of 15.13m.
