Junior Moa Svedenskiold tie for second at 3-under 141 following first 36 holes
DALLAS – University of Houston Women's Golfer Moa Svedenskiold was tied for second with a score of 3-under141 following the first day of the Veritex Bank Collegiate at Trinity Forest Golf Club on Monday evening.
As a team, the 26th-ranked Cougars finished the first day with a score of 585 and was tied with Tulsa, five strokes behind first-day leader Texas Tech.
Svedenskiold was one of three Cougars to finish Monday among the Top-20 leaders. Senior Hyeonji Kang and sophomore Maelynn Kim were each tied for 16th at 220.
Svedenskiold ran into trouble early with a bogey on her first hole of the day at No. 4 but moved under par for the rest of the round with back-to-back birdies at Nos. 5-6.
The Halmstad, Sweden, native drained another birdie at No. 9 and sank three straight birdies at Nos. 14-16 to move to 5-under through 13 holes. Overcoming her final bogey of the round at No. 1, Svedenskiold sank birdie on her final two holes to finish with a 66.
Kim and Kang were tied for 16th at 220 as Kang enjoyed a score of even-par 72 in the afternoon session.
Junior Alexa Saldana was tied for 27th at 150 and joined Svedenskiold under par with a 71 in the Second Round. Junior Natalie Saint Germain was tied for 38th at 152 with freshman Annika Ishiyama – playing as an individual – tied for 52nd at 156.
#33 SMU (587), UCF (589), Tarleton State (592), Boston College (594), Iowa (595), Oklahoma State (597) and Yale (600) completed the Top 10.
Individually, Tarleon State's Louise Depadt held the first-day lead at 5-under 139 to stand two strokes ahead of Svedenskiold, Molly Smith (UCF), and Jennifer Roller (Tulsa). Mackenzie Lee (SMU) was in fifth at 142 with Maja Ambroziak (142) and Emily Odwin (SMU) tied for sixth at 143.
The tournament concludes with the Final Round beginning with an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start Tuesday.

For Tuesday's Final Round, Houston will compete in groups with student-athletes from Texas Tech, Tulsa and SMU.
Svedenskiold begins in the first group off No. 1 at 8:30 a.m., with Ishiyama (second group off No. 1), Kim (No. 2), Kang (No. 3), Saldana (No. 4) and Saldana (Nov. 5) following.
