Cougars to compete as team in ninth NCAA Regional in program history on May 5-7

The Cougars will compete as the No. 5 seed at the NCAA Columbus Regional on May 5-7. Playing on the Scarlet Course at OSU Golf Club, Houston will face against No. 1 seed Arkansas, No. 2 LSU, No. 3 and host Ohio State, No. 4 Kansas, No. 6 SMU, No. 7 UNLV, No. 8 Illinois, No. 9 Kent State, No. 10 Illinois State, No. 11 Xavier and No. 12 Oakland.
This is the highest Houston Women's Golf has been seeded at an NCAA Regional in the program's history. This year's No. 5 seed topped the previous high of No. 7 during the 2024 NCAA Auburn Regional, 2023 NCAA Pullman Regional and 2018 NCAA Austin Regional.
Seventy-two (72) teams and 10 individuals not on those teams were selected to compete at the NCAA Regionals. The top five teams and top individual not on an advancing team at each NCAA Regional site advance to the NCAA Championships set for May 16-21 at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
The Cougars learned their postseason destination watching the NCAA Selection Show inside Cougar Den in the Athletics/Alumni Center.
In addition to the NCAA Columbus Regional, schools also will compete at Birdwood Golf Course (Charlottesville, Va., hosted by Virginia); Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club (Golf Canyon, Arizona., hosted by Arizona State); University Club of Kentucky (Lexington, Ky., hosted by Kentucky); Rawls Course (Lubbock, Texas, hosted by Texas Tech); Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club (Norman, Okla., hosted by Oklahoma).

Houston has earned its place among the nation's best with an impressive 2024-25 season. The Cougars tied a school single-season record with three team tournament championships (Schooner Fall Classic [Sept. 21-23, 2024]; Riverbend Intercollegiate [March 10-11]; and Veritex Bank Collegiate [April 7-8]) with three other Top-Five finishes in 10 tournaments.
Junior Moa Svedenskiold captured medalist honors at the Veritex Bank Collegiate and Riverbend Intercollegiate to join All-American Leonie Harm as the only Cougars to win multiple individual tournament titles in a season.
Svedenskiold leads Houston with a 72.00 scoring average and 16 round of par or lower, including seven in the 60s.
Fellow junior Natalie Saint Germain stands second on the team with a 72.30 average and is tied with sophomore Maelynn Kim for second with 15 rounds of par or better. Saint Germain recently earned All-Tournament Team honors at the Big 12 Championships with her 10th-place finish at the league's postseason event.
Kim and junior Alexa Saldana are tied for third among the Cougars with a 72.97 average.
NCAA REGIONALS HISTORY
With Wednesday's selection, Houston will be represented in 10 straight NCAA Regionals dating back to the 2015 season with team appearances in nine of the last 10 years.
A year ago, the Cougars competed as the No. 7 seed at the NCAA Auburn Regional and tied for sixth at Auburn University Club in Auburn, Ala., on May 6-8, 2024.
Svedenskiold, Saldana, senior Hyeonji Kang, Saint Germain and Kim return in 2025 from that postseason squad.
Two Cougar All-Americans have earned three berths into the NCAA Championships as individuals during the program's history.
Leonie Harm qualified for the 2018 and 2016 NCAA Championships while Karen Fredgaard earned the most recent invitation in 2021, tying for 28th for the highest individual finish at the nation's top collegiate event.
