Houston Athletics to celebrate 10-year anniversary of instrumental season on Saturday, Nov. 1
HOUSTON – The 2015 University of Houston Football team will be recognized on Saturday, Nov. 1 during the Cougars' Big 12 Conference matchup against West Virginia inside TDECU Stadium as part of the 10-year anniversary and reunion festivities.
The 2015 squad won the American Athletic Conference in the third season of the league's existence on their way to the 2015 Peach Bowl where the Cougars dispatched Florida State 38-24 to cap off a 13-1 season. Houston finished the season ranked eighth nationally after going 7-1 in league play.
Quarterback Greg Ward Jr., accounted for three total touchdowns, two on the ground and another through the air to guide Houston's wire to wire win.
The Cougars scored 33+ points in 12 of 14 contests and won the American Conference Championship game over Temple 24-13 in front of Cougar fans in TDECU Stadium.
Houston beat three Power 5 conference teams during the season, upending Louisville in Kentucky, 34-31, obliterating Vanderbilt 34-0 and beating Florida State by double digits and was Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher's first loss to a non-Power 5 school while at Florida State.
In head coach Tom Herman's first season at the helm, 11 Cougars earned 12 All-Conference honors with Demarcus Ayers (wide receiver, return specialist), Elandon Roberts (linebacker) and Trevon Stewart (safety) earning First Team All-Conference accolades.
