
Cougars Set Academic Records with Highest GPA in History

Houston student-athletes set new benchmark with 3.24 term GPA during fall 2024
HOUSTON – University of Houston Athletics achieved a historic milestone in academic performance during fall 2024, posting a record-breaking term GPA of 3.24, with 291 student-athletes earning a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
This achievement marked the fourth consecutive cumulative department-wide GPA of 3.0 or higher, setting a new standard for academic excellence. Seven sport programs matched or surpassed their previous term or cumulative GPA records, while 11 of 15 sports posted a term GPA above 3.0.
The department also saw a 39% reduction in course withdrawals from fall 2023 and a 14% increase in student-athletes achieving a 3.0 GPA or higher compared to the spring. A total of 137 student-athletes were named to the Athletics Director's Honor Roll (3.0+ GPA), 131 earned Distinguished Honor Roll recognition (3.5+ GPA) and 23 achieved the elite status of the 4.0 Club (4.0 GPA).
Houston Baseball tied its highest term GPA in program history with a 3.31. Men's Basketball achieved its highest term GPA (3.04) and cumulative GPA (2.85) on record, while Houston Football recorded its best cumulative team GPA (2.72). Men's Golf set a new high for cumulative GPA (3.38) and term GPA (3.57). Men's Track and Field posted its highest cumulative GPA in team history at 2.98 and Men's Cross Country earned a 3.04 cumulative GPA.
On the women's side, Golf achieved its second-highest cumulative GPA (3.56), Soccer recorded its best-ever term GPA (3.64) and Volleyball notched its highest term GPA (3.62). Houston Tennis posted a fall cumulative GPA of 3.51, while Women's Cross Country earned a 3.39 and Swimming & Diving a 3.36. Softball recorded a fall 2024 cumulative GPA of 3.29 and a term GPA of 3.36. Women's Basketball posted a cumulative GPA of 2.88.
Additionally, 17 Cougars from five different sports earned bachelor's or master's degrees during the fall semester.
