Hinchliffe, Maswanganyi Qualify for Men’s 100-Meter Semifinal at 2024 Paris Olympic Games

Louie Hinchliffe wins heat, Maswanganyi places third in the 100-meter Round 1
PARIS – University of Houston sprinter Louie Hinchliffe made his Olympic debut in winning fashion as he won his heat and sprinter Shaun Maswanganyi placed third in the men's 100-meter Round 1 as both Cougars qualified for the 100m semifinal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games inside Stade de France on Saturday.
Hinchliffe, competing for Great Britain, won heat three as he ran a sub-10 time of 9.98 to defeat World Champion Noah Lyles. The Sheffield, England, native enters the semifinal with the third fastest time behind USA's Kenneth Bednarek and Fred Kerley.
In the same heat, Maswanganyi earned his automatic berth to the semifinal as he crossed the finish line at 10.06 for third place. The Johannesburg, South Africa, native will compete in his second career Olympic semifinal. At the Tokyo Olympic Games, Maswanganyi finished just outside the qualifying window for the final of the event in 14th-place.
Hinchliffe and Maswanganyi will compete in the first heat of the 100-meter semifinal at 1:05 p.m., CT, Sunday. The first two in each heat and the next two fastest times will advance to the 100-meter final set for 2:50 p.m., CT, Sunday. The semifinal and final will be streamed on NBC, USA and Peacock.
