Cougars find success on Senior Day
HOUSTON – Houston Swimming & Diving concluded its first meet of the spring schedule with a victory against SMU and Rice at the CRWC Natatorium for Senior Day.
"Today was a very special day for our seniors and their families," stated Head Coach Tanica Jamison. "We are in a heavier training phase so it was really good to see them step up and race today."
The three seniors, Rachel Hicks, Shayla Erickson and Hannah Esopenko, were joined by family, friends, and coaches and teammates to honor their accomplishments during their time spent as Cougars.
The tri-meet resulted in a Houston win against both SMU and Rice. The Cougars came out on top against the Mustangs scoring 167.00 to their 118.00. Houston also defeated Rice 181.00 to the Owls' 104.00.
On the boards, Emilia Waters hit a zone cut on the 1-meter and 3-meter dives for the second time this season. Jolie Blodgett reached a personal best on the 1-meter with a score of 278.70 which also was her second zone score of the season in the event.
When reflecting on today's meet and the upcoming spring schedule, Jamison expressed, "We only have a few more opportunities to race before conference, so the next few weeks will be very important as we head into February. We have a lot of good things happening."
At the conclusion of the meet, the 2021 American Athletic Conference championship team was presented with their rings from last year's conference victory.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will travel to Tulane on Jan. 22 to face the Green Wave before returning to the CRWC Natatorium on Feb. 4-5 for the final regularly-scheduled spring meet of the season. American Athletic Conference and NCAA competition will follow thereafter.
