NORMAN, Okla. – University of Houston sophomore Annie Kim fired a career-low 68 in the Second Round of the Schooner Fall Classic to lead the Cougars and move higher in the individual standings.
As a team, the Cougars lowered their First-Round score by eight shots with a 282 and stood in seventh at 572. Host Oklahoma held the Second-Round lead at 557 to stand one stroke ahead of Texas.
Alabama (566), Illinois (568), Baylor (570) and Mississippi State (571) completed the Top-Six leaders with Florida State (573), Clemson (575) and Louisville (576) following the Cougars.
After starting her day with a double bogey on the 6,048-yard, par-70 layout at Belmar Golf Club, Kim rallied to shoot 4-under with only one bogey on her final 17 holes.
The Seoul, South Korea, native rallied with birdies on Nos. 5 and No. 7 to return to even par for her front nine. A transfer from Vanderbilt, Kim added additional birdies on No. 11 and No. 14 before suffering a bogey on the par-4 16th hole.
Fortunately, she closed her day with her team-leading fifth birdie of the day. Her total bested her previous 18-hole low of 71 set during the First Round of the Mason Rudolph Championship on Sept. 21, 2018, during her freshman season at Vanderbilt.
With Saturday's score, Kim surged 12 places higher in the individual standings and finished the Second Round in 24th at 142.
Sophomore Hannah Screen drained three birdies without a bogey through her first 16 holes before enduring a double bogey on the par-3 17th hole. The Berkhamsted, U.K. native was tied for 11th overall at even-par 140 to lead the Cougars.
Sophomore Maria Jose Martinez and freshman Karen Fredgaard were tied for 36th at 145, while senior Brooke McDougald stood in 79th at 160. Competing as an individual, senior Amanda Elich was tied for 60th at 149.
