THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The University of Houston Women's Golf program stood in a tie for first place at 5-over before darkness suspended the Second Round at the ICON Invitational at The Woodlands Country Club on Monday evening.
The 33rd-ranked Cougars posted a score of 297 in the morning round and were 4-under in the Second Round before play was halted on the 6,392-yard, par-72 Tournament Course. 33 Houston was tied with No. 27 Purdue at 5-over.
Texas A&M was in third at +11 with No. 18 Clemson (+16), No. 9 Kent State (+9), No. 20 TCU (+17), Texas State (+18), UTSA (+24), Southern Miss (+26) and North Texas (+26) rounding out the Top 10.
Individually, freshman Hannah Screen shot a 1-under 71 in the First Round and was tied for third at 3-under overall midway through the Second Round to lead four Cougars among the Top-20 leaders.
The Berkhamsted, U.K., native sat at 1-over for her first six holes before sinking a birdie on the 183-yard, par-3 eighth hole to draw back to even. She added additional birdies on No. 10 and No. 13 as well as two of her final four holes.
Screen began the Second Round with a birdie on the par-4 second hole. After a bogey on No. 8, she rallied with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 10-11 and made four straight pars before the round was stopped.
Second-Round play will resume at 8 a.m., Tuesday, with the Final Round following.
After fighting through a 76 in the First Round, senior All-American Leonie Harm rebounded in the afternoon session with four birdies and stood at -2 in the Second Round with three holes remaining.
The Gerlingen, Germany, native was tied for 11th at 2-over.
Junior Amanda Elich and senior Maddy Rayner were tied for 14th at 3-over, while freshman Maria Jose Martinez was tied for 57th at +11.
Senior Yuka Kajiki was tied for 57th at 11-over, while senior Tatiana Pineda stood in 75th at +15.
Clemson's Alice Hewson was the tournament's individual leader at 6-under. Melati Putri (Purdue) stood in second at 4-under with three players tied for fourth at 2-under behind screen.

Following the ICON Invitational, the Cougars head to Mesa, Ariz., to compete in the Clover Cup at the Longbow Golf Club on March 15-17.
From there, Houston competes at the Mountainview Collegiate, hosted by Missouri at The Preserve at Saddlebrooke in Tucson, Ariz., on March 22-24.
