Houston Defeats FGCU to Stay Perfect in Dual Meets

Cougars pick up win in Sunshine State
FORT MEYERS, Fla. – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving program maintained momentum on the second day of action against Florida Gulf Coast, improving to 3-0 in dual meets after defeating FGCU 204-142 on Saturday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Houston came out strong and won the 400 Medley Relay as Laura Laderoute, Peyton Kondis, Katie Higgins and Mykenzie Leehy combined for a time of 3:38.55.
Laderoute would pace the Cougars in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:00.13 for first-place in the event for her first win of the day as the senior went on to win the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:02.43. The senior walked away with three individual first-place finishes.
Kondis notched her second win of the meet to sweep the Breaststroke events, winning the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:11.38. Katie Higgins came out on top in the 100 Butterfly, pacing Houston with a time of 54.46.
Houston swept the 100 Freestyle behind a blazing fast 49.57 from Leehy to lead all swimmers, as Brown finished second (50.91) and Kathryn Power in third-place at 50.95.
Brown would win her second individual event of the meet, as she finished at 4:48.48 in the 500 Free for top honors.
Houston concluded the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 Freestyle relay, as Brown, Leehy, Power and Hannah Middleton combined for a time of 1:32.18.
On the boards, Lauren Burrell led the divers with a first-place finish in the 1-meter, amassing 283.80 points.
UP NEXT
Houston will return home to the Campus Recreation & Wellness center to prepare for the Phill Hansel Invitational Nov. 21-23 at the CRWC.
