SUNSET, S.C. â€" University of Houston freshman Leonie Harm fired a career-low 69 to lead the Cougars and tie for third after the First Round of the Clemson Invitational on Friday evening at The Reserve at Lake Keowee.
Harm who joined the Cougars at the semester break and is competing in only her third collegiate event, led Houston with four birdies on the 7,253-yard, par-72 course. The Gerlingen, Germany, native opened the day with six straight pars before suffering her lone bogey on the 182-yard, par-3 seventh hole.
Fortunately, she rallied two holes later with a birdie on No. 9 to move back to even par and close out her front nine. After three straight pars to open her back nine, Harm sank birdies on three of her final six holes, including two of the last three.
Harm stood only two strokes in back of No. 66 Jennifer Hahn of Vanderbilt, who carded an opening-round 67. Michigan State's Katie Sharp stood in second with a 68, while Harm was tied with No. 38 Karolina Vickova of Florida, No. 20 Anna Newell of Tennessee and Furman's Taylor Totland.
As a team, the Cougars enjoyed a round of 3-under-par 285 to finish the first day in second place, one stroke behind eighth-ranked Florida. No. 46 Michigan State (287), No. 33 Furman (288) and No. 47 Clemson (288) rounded out the top-6 leaders.
Sophomore Megan Thothong enjoyed a 71 in Friday's round and joined Harm among the top-10 leaders. The Dallas native drained three birdies in her round with two in her final six holes.
Senior Raegan Bremer posted an even-par 72 Friday and was tied for 18th. Overcoming a bogey on her first hole of the day, the two-time All-American Athletic Conference Team member rallied with three birdies during the next 13 holes.
Sophomore Yuka Kajiki was tied for 28th with a 73, while junior Emily Gilbreth was tied for 36th at 74.
The inaugural Clemson Invitational features four top-30 programs and nine of the nation's top 50.
SECOND-ROUND PAIRINGS
Saturday's Second Round begins at 7 a.m. (CDT) start with a split-tee start off No. 1 and No. 10. The Cougars will compete in threesomes with student-athletes from Michigan State and Florida off No. 1.
Gilbreth will start her round at 10 a.m. (CDT) with Kajiki (10:09 a.m. CDT), Bremer (10:18 a.m. CDT), Thothong (10:27 a.m. CDT) and Harm (10:36 a.m. CDT) following. Complete Second-Round pairings can be found here.

UP NEXT
Following the Clemson Invitational, the Cougars enter the postseason when they play at the American Athletic Conference Championships on April 17-19 at Hammock Beach Resort & Golf Club in Palm Coast, Fla.
From there, the Cougars hope to compete in the NCAA Regionals, beginning May 5-7 at a site to be determined.
