DALLAS â€" Battling wet conditions throughout the day, University of Houston junior Ivon Reijers posted a 74 to stand in third place following the First Round of the Trinity Forest Invitational presented by Vic Salvino on Monday evening.
The tournament was originally scheduled for 54 holes over two days on the 6,236-yard, par-72 course at Trinity Forest Golf Club, but heavy rain in the Dallas area forced the cancellation of one of Monday's two rounds. The tournament wraps up with the final 18 holes Tuesday morning.
The Cougars posted a team score of 310 in a field that featured seven of the nation's top-50 teams.
No. 46 Michigan held the first day lead with a score of 304 to stand one stroke ahead of No. 22 Texas A&M and two shots in front of No. 21 Baylor and No. 25 Ohio State. UNLV (307) and No. 32 SMU (309) rounded out the top-six leaders.
Starting on No. 13, Reijers began her day with two bogeys through her first four holes but rallied to sink a birdie on No. 18 and then drained an eagle on the 447-yard, par-5 second hole. Although the Barcelona native endured bogeys on three of her next four holes, she rebounded with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 7 and 8.
Texas A&M's Bianca Fabrizio enjoyed a 71 Monday to hold the individual lead and finish as the only player under par through 18 holes. No. 45 Lindsey McCurdy of SMU stood in second with a 73, while Reijers was tied with Baylor's Amy Lee and No. 81 Katja Pogacar of Ohio State.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament begins with an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start Monday with 36 holes scheduled for the first day on the 6,246-yard, par-72 course at Trinity Forest Golf Club. The tournament wraps up with the final 18 holes with 8:30 a.m., shotgun start Tuesday.
Making her collegiate debut, freshman Amanda Elich overcame back-to-back double bogeys to start her collegiate career and sank two birdies in a three-hole stretch late in the round to move into a tie for 20th at 77.
Senior Emily Gilbreth was tied for 35th with a 79, while junior Allie Andersen was tied for 38th at 80. Junior Kelli Rollo was tied for 46th at 81.
