HUNTSVILLE, Texas â€" University of Houston senior Emily Gilbreth posted a 72 in Tuesday's Final Round at the Bearkat Invitational to lead the Cougars and finish third overall at 2-under 211 at Raven Nest Golf Club.
A day after firing a career-low 68 in Monday's afternoon round, the Bellaire High product enjoyed the third-best finish of her collegiate career. It trailed only her individual co-championship at the UNF Collegiate in 2016 and a second-place showing at that same tournament in 2015.
Gilbreth was one of four Cougars competing in this tournament as individuals. Junior Kelli Rollo joined Gilbreth among the top-10 leaders Monday, tying for eighth at 219. Junior Courtney Tibiletti moved into a tie for 11th at 222 after tying with Gilbreth for team low-round honors with a 72 on Tuesday. Sophomore Tatiana Pineda tied for 35th at 242.
With only four individuals, the Cougars did not compete for the team championship. Host Sam Houston State captured the team title with a score of 873 to finish nine strokes ahead of Lamar. Houston Baptist (893), McLennan Community College (917), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (926) and Incarnate Word (926) rounded out the top-6 team leaders.
Individually, Lamar's Elodie Chaplet earned medalist honors with a score of 7-under-par 206 to finish two strokes in front of Sam Houston State's Gianti Mahardhika. That duo joined Gilbreth as the only players to finish the tournament under par.
UP NEXT
Following the Bearkat Invitational, the Cougars will continue their fall schedule at the Jim West Challenge. Houston will compete on the Tom Fazio Championship Course at Carlton Woods on Oct. 9-10 in The Woodlands, Texas.
