THE WOODLANDS, Texas â€" University of Houston junior Allie Andersen posted an even-par 72 Sunday to lead the Cougars and tie for 15th following the First Round of the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational at Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
As a team, the Cougars posted a team score of 299 to finish the first day in 11th on the 6,450-yard, par-72 course.
Andersen, who is competing in her first season with the Cougars after transferring from Colorado State, started her day on No. 10 and overcame a bogey on just her second hole. The Woodlands, Texas, native sank her first of three birdies on the 387-yard, par-4 12th hole.
After another bogey on No. 15, she closed out her front nine with three straight birdies and started her back nine in impressive fashion with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 1 and 2. Andersen closed out her day with a bogey and six pars, including five straight.
Senior Emily Gilbreth joined Andersen among the top-20 leaders, tying for 20th at 73. Junior Megan Thothong stood in a tie for 30th at 75, while sophomore Leonie Harm was tied for 66th at 79. Junior Ivon Reijers tied for 69th at 80.
Mississippi State held the first-day team lead at 284 to finish one stroke in front of No. 23 Tennessee. No. 9 Arkansas stood in third at 288 with No. 39 Texas A&M (290), UTSA (291), No. 32 Auburn (291), No. Kansas State (293), Tulane (294), No. 21 SMU (294) and No. 35 TCU (298) rounding out the top-10 leaders.
39th-ranked Alana Uriell of Arkansas opened the tournament with a 65 to hold a 3-stroke advantage over Ji Eun Baik of Mississippi State. Tennessee teammates Anna Newell and Hannah Pietila were tied for third with 69s.

SECOND-ROUND PAIRINGS
Monday's Second Round tees off with an 8:30 a.m., split-tee start of No. 1 and No. 10. The Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from TCU and Old Dominion and begin off No. 10
Reijers begins the Second Round for the Cougars at 8:30 a.m., with Harm (8:38 a.m.), Thothong (8:46 a.m.), Gilbreth (8:54 a.m.) and Andersen (9:02 a.m.) following.
The tournament wraps up with the Final Round on Tuesday morning.
