SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The University of Houston Women's Golf program posted a 12-stroke improvement from their First Round score to move higher in the team standings following the NCAA San Antonio Regional Second Round at Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
A day after shooting 300, the Cougars - who are competing as the Regional's No. 12 seed - posted a team total of even-par 288 and moved into 13th-place with a two-day score of 588. All five Cougars in the starting lineup bettered their First Round score by at least one stroke on Friday.
Only No. 19 Arizona State enjoyed a bigger improvement from Thursday's First Round at 14 strokes (296 on Thursday, 282 on Friday).
Competing on the 6,350-yard, par-72 layout, sophomore Emily Gilbreth fired a 1-under-par 71, thanks to three birdies, and tied for 38th at 145 to lead the Cougars. The Bellaire High product started her round with a bang, draining birdies on two of her first three holes.
Gilbreth opened her back nine on No. 1 with another birdie on the par-4 first hole and capped her day with eight straight pars.
Senior Courtney Ferguson finished with an even-par 72, thanks to two birdies in a three-hole stretch on her back nine, and tied for 48th at 146. Junior Raegan Bremer tied for 61st at 149, joining freshman Megan Thothong, who enjoyed a team-leading, 5-stroke improvement from Thursday's First Round with a 72. Freshman Yuka Kajiki tied for 71st at 151.
On the team side, No. 14 Tennessee pushed its lead to finish four strokes at 557 in front of No. 21 Baylor. No. 6 Washington (562), No. 3 UCLA (564), No. 11 Texas A&M (564), No. 43 Texas (571), No. 37 Texas Tech (575), No. 19 Arizona State (578), No. 27 Oregon (579) and Oklahoma (581) rounded out the top-10 leaders.
No. 42 Hayley Davis of Baylor held the Second-Round lead at 9-under-par 135 to finish one stroke ahead of No. 3 Bronte Law of UCLA and 33rd-ranked Dylan Kim of Baylor. Morgan Metraux (Florida State), Kelsey Ulep (Oregon), Yupaporn Kawinpakorn (Kansas), Emmie Pietila (Tennessee) and 54th-ranked Eimi Koga (Tennessee) tied for fourth at 138.
FINAL ROUND on SATURDAY
The Cougars wrap up the NCAA San Antonio Regional on Saturday morning. Teeing off No. 10, Houston will compete in threesomes with student-athletes from Kennesaw State and Lamar
Kajiki will start the day for the Cougars at 8:24 a.m., with Thothong (8:33 a.m.), Bremer (8:42 a.m.), Ferguson (8:51 a.m.) and Gilbreth (9 a.m.) following.

The low six teams and low three individuals not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championships, slated for May 22-27 at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.
NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
Hosted by USF, the 2015 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships will feature teams and student-athletes - who advanced from NCAA Regional Qualifying - competing in an individual stroke-play format over 72 holes with the top eight teams qualifying at the conclusion of play for the team match-play tournament
Golf Channel's live tournament coverage of the women's championships will begin on May 25 to crown the individual national champion as well as track the teams attempting to qualify for the 8-team match-play tournament. This year, Golf Channel's coverage will include all three rounds of the team match-play tournament on May 26-27.
