SAN ANTONIO, Texas â€" For the second time in three days, University of Houston sophomore Yuka Kajiki led the Cougars with a 1-under-par 71 to move into a tie for 12th on Tuesday afternoon during the Final Round of The Alamo Invitational at Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
Kajiki equaled her First-Round score from Sunday, thanks to a team-high four birdies over the final 18 holes on the 6,450-yard, par-72 course. Starting on No. 11, the Hiroshima, Japan, native birdied each of her first two holes. Following a bogey on No. 13, she sank five straight pars before starting her back nine with a bogey on No. 9.
She answered with a birdie on the par-3 third hole and, after her final bogey of the day on No. 9, capped her tournament with her final birdie on the par-4 10th hole for a three-day, 54-hole score of 212.
It was her second top-20 finish of the season and the fifth of her career.
As a team, the Cougars â€" who are ranked No. 23 nationally â€" finished 12th with a score of 896. Florida captured the team championship by 12 strokes over Arkansas with Texas Tech (879), SMU (882) and host UTSA (884) rounding out the top-5 leaders.
Individually, Florida's Maria Torres earned medalist honors with a score of 6-under-par 210 to claim a 5-stroke victory over teammate Karolina Vickova and Laura Lonardi of Baylor.
Junior Emily Gilbreth tied for 58th with a score of 229, while sophomore Megan Thothong tied for 59th at 230. Sophomore Courtney Tibiletti finished 69th at 234.
This marked the second time in five months that the Cougars will compete at Briggs Ranch Golf Club. A year ago, the Cougars capped their year with a berth into the NCAA San Antonio Regional in only the program's second year of existence.
UP NEXT
With the completion of The Alamo Invitational, the Cougars will head into their winter break. Houston opens the spring campaign on Feb. 7-9 when it tees off at the UCF Challenge in Orlando.
From there, the Cougars look to defend their team championship when they compete at the UNF Collegiate on March 7-8 at Jacksonville Golf and Country Club in Jacksonville, Fla. A year ago, Houston won the first team championship in program history while Thothong earned the first individual title of her collegiate career.
