Houston will be part of a 14-team field, including Kent State, UNLV, New Mexico, Miami (Fla.), Texas Tech, SMU, Oklahoma, Kansas State, Texas State, North Florida, UTSA, Tulsa and host Texas.
The Cougars are ranked among the nation's top-25 leaders in both the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings and Golfstat rankings, checking in at No. 23 in the latter poll. Houston is one of four top-25 tournaments in this week's tournament, joining No, 8 Kent State, No. 21 UNLV and No. 22 New Mexico.
Houston enters this week's event following a two-week break in its schedule. In their last event, the Cougars finished sixth at the Jim West Challenge on Oct. 6 after posting a team score of even-par 288 in the Final Round.
ABOUT THE COUGARS
Third-year Houston Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell recently announced the team's starting lineup with sophomore Megan Thothong, senior Raegan Bremer, junior Emily Gilbreth and sophomores Yuka Kajiki and Maddy Rayner wearing the Scarlet and White this week.
Thothong has been a steady leader for the Cougars during the fall season. The Dallas native posted back-to-back top-7 finishes to open the fall campaign and leads the Cougars with a 72.67 scoring average and four rounds of par or better
The lone senior on the 2014-15 team, Bremer enjoyed a pair of top-20 finishes to start the fall season. A two-time All-American Athletic Conference honoree, she tied for 15th at the season-opening Minnesota Invitational on Sept. 14-15 and tied the school record with a Final-Round 68 at the Mason Rudolph Championship on Sept. 20.
Gilbreth has competed in every tournament this season and earned a pair of top-20 finishes. The Bellaire High product opened the year with a 15th-place finish at the Minnesota Invitational and recently tied for 14th at the Jim West Challenge, thanks to a Second-Round 71.
Kajiki was the Cougars' leading competitor in their most recent event. The Hiroshima, Japan, native tied for ninth at the Jim West Challenge on Oct. 5 with sub-par efforts in the last two rounds, including a Final-Round 68 to tie the school record.
Rayner returns to Houston's starting lineup this week. The Southlake, Texas, native tied for 20th at the Mason Rudolph Championship on Sept. 20.
UP NEXT
Following the Betsy Rawls Invitational, the Cougars close out their fall schedule at The Alamo Invitational, hosted by UTSA at Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas, on Oct. 25-27. A year ago, the Cougars finished their 2014-15 season on that course at the NCAA San Antonio Regional in only the program's second year of existence.
From there, the team will enjoy its winter break before opening the spring campaign at the UCF Challenge on Feb. 7-9, at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando.
