EAST LANSING, Mich. - University of Houston freshman Yuka Kajiki fired a final-round 75 on Sunday at the Mary Fossum Invitational to finish third with a score of 223 and lead the Cougars to their second fourth-place team showing this week.

Kajiki, who is a Hiroshima, Japan, native, led or tied for the team lead in all three rounds to lead the Cougars on the 6,236-yard, par-72 layout at Forest Akers West Golf Course. In Sunday's Final Round, she drained a pair of birdies to surge one place higher in the final individual standings from Saturday evening.

She was one of two Cougars to finish among the top-10 individual leaders. Competing in only her second collegiate tournament like Kajiki, freshman Megan Thothong birdied two of her final four holes on the way to a Final-Round 75 and placed eighth with a 54-hole score of 227.

It was a career-best finish for both student-athletes. Earlier this week, Kajiki tied for 30th, while Thothong tied for 28th at The "Mo"Morial, hosted by Texas A&M at Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas.

As a team, the Cougars posted a team score of 311 in the Final Round to break out of a tie with Michigan and claim sole possession of fourth place. Houston finished fourth as a squad at The "Mo"Morial earlier this week.

Junior Raegan Bremer tied for 24th with a score of 235, while sophomore Emily Gilbreth stood in a tie for 45th at 240. Freshman Maddy Rayner tied for 62nd with a score of 245.

Notre Dame posted the low team round of the day with a 307 to overtake host Michigan State and claim a 4-stroke win for the team title with a score of 913. Toledo finished third at 919 with Michigan (928), FIU (928), East Tennessee State (935), Grand Valley (949), Iowa (951) and Western Michigan (955) rounding out the top-10 team leaders.

FIU's Meghan MacLaren earned medalist honors with a three-round score of 221, thanks to a Final-Round 74, the low round of the day. Grand Valley's Gabrielle Shipley finished second at 222, while Toledo's Jennifer Elshotz and Talia Campbell tied for fourth behind Kajiki at 225.

Following the Mary Fossum Invitational, the Cougars will take more than a month off from competition before returning to action Oct. 20-22 at the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational in West Point, Miss.
