SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The University of Houston Women's Golf program remained in 13th place Monday afternoon after posting a team score of 301 during the Second Round of the Alamo Invitational.
The Cougars broke out of a tie for 13th place with a 36-hole total of 597 on the 6,428-yard, par-72 course at Briggs Ranch Golf Club. LSU grabbed the Second Round lead with a score of 284 and stood in first at 563, four strokes ahead of Arkansas. Auburn (570), Florida State (575), Texas A&M (577) Tulane (579), SMU (584), Oklahoma (584), Baylor (586) and Texas Tech (590) round out the top-10 team leaders.
Houston junior Raegan Bremer and senior Courtney Ferguson each posted 73s Monday morning for the Cougars' low round of the day and stood among the top-20 leaders. Bremer was tied for 14th with a score of 1-under-par 143, while Ferguson stood in a tie for 17th at 145.
Starting on No. 10, Bremer was steady through the first 12 holes, draining a pair of birdies. Unfortunately, the Anaheim, Calif., native battled through bogeys on three of her final six holes to cap her round.
Ferguson sank birdies on two of her first four holes to start the day before finishing her back nine with seven pars and a pair of bogeys.
Freshman Megan Thothong posted a 74 in Monday's Round and was tied for 24th at 146.
Other Cougars in action were freshman Maddy Rayner (163, 75th) and freshman Tatiana Pineda (168, t-77th), who was making her collegiate debut.
Individually, LSU's claimed the lead at 8-under-par 136, thanks to a Second-Round 70. Auburn's Sophia Schubert and Arkansas' Gaby Lopez were tied for second at 139, while Florida State's Lydia Gumm and LSU teammates Madelene Sagstrom and Marijosse Navarro were tied for fourth at 140.
