HOUSTON - The University of Houston swimming and diving team was recognized as a Scholar All-America Team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) on Friday.
While the Cougars climbed to fourth place in Conference USA to finish the season, the ladies amassed a 3.27 GPA as a team.
"I am so pleased our team is doing so well in the classroom," Taylor said. "The girls set a team GPA goal of 3.2 for the fall and spring semesters and surpassed it. Now, they've increased their goal for this year as we strive in both our academic and athletic efforts to be tier one."
Individually, Reka Kovacs, Beccy Hillis and Andrea Kells represented the swimming team as Scholar All-America Honorable Mention honorees, while divers Jessalyn Almond and Julia Lonnegren also earned spots on the list.
The three swimmers and two divers were named to the list after earning at least a 3.5 GPA last season while also recording an NCAA "B" time or qualifying for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships.
The Cougars started classes on Monday and are preparing for their first meet of the season, the Red and White Meet, on Oct. 6.
