Swimming and Diving Drops Dual at SMU

Dallas, Texas - The University of Houston swimming and diving team dropped their second dual of the weekend, 136-98, to Conference USA rival SMU at Perkins Natatorium on Saturday.
Despite falling in the team score, Houston was able to record four individual victories and a relay win.
Kimberley Eeson started things off in the first individual event of the afternoon, turning in a 10:27.92 in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Rachel Holcomb followed in third with a finish of 11:23.74. Eeson went on to follow-up her win with a second place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:07.06, while Christine Salinas was fourth (5:18.64).
The Cougars second win in the swimming events came in the 200-yard breaststroke. Beccy Hillis turned in a time of 2:18.65 for top honors. Natalie Newcomb followed in fourth (2:28.54) and Holli Pisarski was sixth (2:35.97).
Once again Anastasia Pozdniakova won the 1-meter diving event with 352.88 points. Lacey Truelove followed in fourth (276.60 points), Julia Lonnegren was fifth (273.67) and Jessalyn Almond was sixth (241.73).
Pozdniakova then capped the afternoon with 375.98 points in the 3-meter event for the win. Lonnegren followed in fourth (286.35), Truelove was fifth (271.88) and Almond was sixth (258.00).
After recording two event wins a day earlier against North Texas, Reka Kovacs was second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.44. Teammates Kimmy Ballo and Rachel Johnson finished in third and sixth place respectively.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Salinas led all Cougars with a third place finish of 1:56.61. Following in fourth was Ballo (1:58.36) and in fifth was Hillis (2:01.07). Pisarski added a fourth place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.25. Other competitors in the event included Catherine Finley (fifth; 28.37) and Johnson (sixth; 28.51).
Pisarski was also fourth in the 100-yard freestyle event with a time of 56.58, while Haley Weathers was fifth (57.87). Andrea Kells and Rachel Holcomb both competed in the 200-yard butterfly. Kells finished second (2:06.17) and Holcomb was fourth (2:29.89).
In the relay events, Kovacs, Hillis, Kells and Salinas combined to finish second in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:56.70. The "B" team of Johnson, Finley, Newcomb and Weathers finished fourth (4:25.03).
The final event of the afternoon came as a Cougar win in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Eeson, Kells, Ballo and Weathers combined for a 3:41.00 finish.
The Cougars will return to Houston for duals against Rice, LSU and Tulane on Jan. 29-30. Friday's events begin at 5 p.m. and will continue on Saturday at 11 a.m.
