Houston, Texas - The University of Houston men's basketball team will play the second game in a three-game home stand when the Cougars play host to Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at Hofheinz Pavilion. The Cougars enter the game with a 6-3 record after defeating New Orleans, 78-65, last Thursday night.
The win over New Orleans marks the third time in the last four years the Cougars have won six non-conference games. If Houston wins its game Saturday night, it would be the first time UH has won seven non-conference games and begun a season winning its first four home games since 1997-98. The Cougars began that season with a 7-0 record.
Houston's 3-0 record in home games this season marks the first time since 2001-02 the Cougars have won their first three home games in a season.
UH will be looking to win its fourth game against the Lions and if the Cougars accomplish that feat it would be the first time Houston won its first four home games since 1997-98.
The Lions are also 6-3 this season after they finished as co-champions in the Southland Conference.
Sophomore guard Lanny Smith led Houston with 30 points against New Orleans, and he is the first Cougar to score 30 points this season. Smith tallied 31 points against Southern Miss last season.
The Cougars concludes its three-game home stand next Tuesday, December 21, when Houston plays host to LSU.
