Swimming & Diving Wins Second Straight at UL Monroe

MONROE, La. - Randee Billips and Stacey Williams and diver Anna Kiess each recorded double wins to help lead the University of Houston Swimming and Diving team to a resounding 153-62 win over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday at Lake C. Oxford Natatorium.
The Cougars won 11 events on the way to the win to improve to 2-3 in dual meets this season and win their second straight on this road trip after dominating Centenary on Friday night. Louisiana-Monroe dropped to 2-4 overall.
Billips, who transferred to UH from ULM prior to fall practice, won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.29 and the 200-yard breaststroke with a clocking of 2:28.98.
Williams was first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:11.89 and the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:09.72.
Kiess won the 3-meter competition with a score of 295.95 and clinched the 1-meter event with 279.15 points. It was her seventh and eighth consecutive wins to open the 2004 fall season.
Other Cougar winners were senior captain Kristin Bay in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.27), Meagan Wien in the 50-yard freestyle (25.29), Szintia Szanto in the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.33), Alejandra Salazar in the 500-yard freestyle (5:20.31)
The Cougar team of Salazar, Vicki Blocker, Wien and Bay won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:42.89.
The Cougars return to action next weekend when they play host to the UH Fall Invitational on Nov. 19-21 at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium.
