Men's Basketball Falls To UTEP, 88-61

EL PASO, Texas (AP) - Jason Williams and Chris Craig combined for 35 points to lead Texas-El Paso to an 88-61 victory over Houston on Monday night.
UTEP (5-1) opened the second half with a 12-0 run, six coming on Craig 3-pointers, to extend its 44-38 halftime lead to 56-38 with 15:45 remaining in the game.
Williams scored 18 points to lead the Miners while Craig scored 17. Williams was 5-of-7 from the field while Craig was 5-of-8 from the 3-point line and had five assists.
Omar Thomas and John Tofi scored 11 points apiece and Roy Smallwood added 10.
Houston (1-3) was led by Bryan Shelton's 16 points. Andre Owens added 13 points and a team-high five assists.
UTEP controlled the ball better than Houston, handing out 22 team assists while committing just 12 turnovers. Houston had only 11 assists and turned it over 20 times.
UTEP shot 50 percent for the game.
The Miners enjoyed a huge advantage at the free throw line hitting 21-of-32 while Houston was just 2-of-9.
