HOUSTON - The University of Houston swimming team opened its 2002-03 season Friday night at the Bayou City Relays Invitational held at the Rice Pool.
The Cougars continue their busy weekend as they play host to North Texas at 3:30 p.m Saturday in an NCAA dual meet at the UH Natatorium.
UH began its season at the Relays Invitational on Friday in a unique format featuring swimmers from the Cougars, Trinity, North Texas and host Rice. Instead of each school competing as a team, the swimmers were divided into six squads with competitors from each school on a team.
Team Two, which included UH swimmers Kristin Bay and Kristen Douglass, captured top honors with 58 points, while Team One, featuring Cougar student-athletes Stacey Williams, Carolina Burakowski and Brittney Dye was a close second with 54 points.
In the only event of the night which pitted school against school, the Cougar 400-yard freestyle relay team finished second behind Rice with a time of 3:39.25.
